The Dodgers announced on Tuesday that Hyun-Jin Ryu will start in their MLB playoff opener against the Atlanta Braves.
Kershaw – a seven-time All-Star, NL Cy Young and Gold Glove award winner – is set to take the mound in game two.
The move allows Kershaw to start on regular rest if the series extends to a decisive fifth game.
Kershaw has started the opening playoff game in the Dodgers’ last five postseason trips.
The 30-year-old has registered a 9-5 record with a 2.73 ERA in 26 starts this season. He struck out 155 and walked 29 in 161.3 innings pitched.
Ryu went 7-3 with a 1.97 ERA in 15 regular-season starts.
